Patrick McHale is an American animator, storyboard artist, screenwriter, and director. He is best known for creating the animated miniseries Over the Garden Wall (2014) and serving as a writer and creative director for Adventure Time (2010). McHale co-wrote the screenplay for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022), a stop-motion animated film that won Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Critics’ Choice Awards. He began his career at Cartoon Network Studios in 2007, working on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, and graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in character animation in 2006. In 2024, he returned to Cartoon Network Studios to work on The Adventure Time Movie.
