Fujihiko Sawai always loved drawing as a kid and majored in architecture at university. His interest in games and anime sparked a fascination with world-building, fueled by art magazines.
In university, Sawai's passion shifted from architecture to creative fields. In his third year, he worked for six months as a background artist at an anime studio. He then spent two and a half years at a Kyushu game studio, creating character models.
Seeking more freedom, Sawai freelanced as a character designer for about five years, also designing small props. At a studio, he expanded his skills in character retouching, texture work, and weapon prop designs. His first major project launched his career as a concept artist, balancing roles in character modeling and concept art.
In 2018, Sawai became the CEO and art director of WACHAJACK, a company created to become a hub for concept artists to gather and visualize ideas, catering to various clients and providing a space for artists to realize their visions.
Sawai's notable works include FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, NieR Re[in]carnation, and BIOHAZARD: Infinite Darkness.
