Devin is an environment artist, illustrator, and author. She has worked as a background painter in the animation industry since 2017. She has illustrated for books with publishers such as HarperCollins, Penguin RandomHouse, Simon & Schuster, Dark Horse, and Macmillan. Her debut picture book as an author-illustrator, "The Bakery Dragon," will be published on October 1, 2024 by Random House Kids. She has illustrated for Magic cards with Wizards of the Coast (debuting 2025), album covers with Mondo (Hook, Lightyear), and board games with Gamewright (A Midsummer Night's Fayre). Other clients include Netflix, Disney, Adobe, and Clip Studio Paint.

Illustrator and Environment Artist Devin Elle Kurtz teaches her method of conceptualizing, developing, and executing her iconic narrative illustrations. This talk will cover brainstorming story ideas, researching and developing those ideas, and using the tools of pictorial composition to depict stories in way that viewers can immediately and wordlessly understand. These techniques transcend program and medium, and be harnessed by artists of all kinds to level up their visual storytelling abilities. Devin will also discuss how these tools can be used in the various industries she has worked in, such as animation, children’s books, and games.
