Hello! I'm Ed and I'm a Costa Rican born artist with an interest in both design and story. I love solving all kinds of visual problems and thrive in challenging myself. I work most of the time in the animation industry as a visual development artist but I've also worked as a story development artist, concept artist, illustrator and storyboard artist as well as in video games. For me, storytelling is what unites all the disciplines and what pushes me forward. There's nothing quite like inspiring emotions in the audience.

Lighting the Story: Color Design Across Games & Animation

Tiffanie Mang | Kristina Vardazaryan | iris muddy | Lynn Chen | Ed Vargas | Kat Tsai

Color and lighting are essential storytelling tools that shape mood, guide the audience, and define the visual identity of a project. In this panel, six artists working across games, television, and feature animation share how they design intentional color and lighting arcs that support the narrative, and how that process shifts by medium. We’ll cover the real differences between casual games, more mature games, and TV/feature work, exploring how choices in hue, saturation, and value contrast shape the emotional impact the viewer experiences.
