Miranda Zimmerman (also known as Faunwood) is a visual artist based in Eugene, Oregon. She is most known for her collections of strange creatures depicted in paintings, ink drawings, and ceramic sculptures. Ever since childhood, she has been fascinated by biologies both real and fictional— from chasing fence lizards in the backyard to flipping through the official Pokemon guidebook and drawing from the images. Later, she pursued an education in Biology and Science Illustration, completing both programs before ultimately deciding to focus on art full-time. Miranda finds herself heavily inspired by the endless surprises and morphologies found in nature, the captivating stories of fiction and mythology, and the nuances of mental health and interpersonal bonds. Her body of work is an exploration of the relationships between organisms and their surrounding world– one that at first feels comfortable and familiar, but grows increasingly obfuscated the more you linger.
