Mia Araujo is an Argentine American author and illustrator. Her debut illustrated novel, Afia in the Land of Wonders, was published by Scholastic in April 2025 and was awarded the Junior Library Guild’s Gold Standard Selection. She’s exhibited her fine art and illustration work in galleries, conventions, and online for the past 16 years. She also co-hosts Painted in Color, a BIPOC art podcast. Past clients include Penguin Random House, HBO, Wizards of the Coast, Imagine FX, and the Washington Post.

This panel explores the less common ways to enter into the arts and entertainment industries, tailored specifically to a person’s individual skills/interests rather than the common fields most young professionals know and explore (character design/modeling, vis dev, concept art, animation, etc). Each panelist has found their way into their careers via more unconventional paths and methods, and have remained flexible in their field to find their own measure of success and joy.
