IMAGINATION. INCLUSION. REPRESENTATION. JOY. The Superhero Project uses the arts as a tool for healing and empowers youth impacted by illnesses, disabilities, and complex mental health, developmental or medical needs. We interview kids and teens about who they are beyond their diagnosis and how they will make a positive difference in the world. Each child is then matched with a member of our global League of Extraordinary Artists, the digital illustrators who design the superhero alter egos based on their ideas and photos. These extraordinary characters become are visual representations of their strength, courage, and creativity. "It's great to work on amazing projects like movies and games, but it's the lives we touch that are our true legacy. That's why I love working with The Superhero Project." - Bobby Chiu, Co-founder, LightBox Expo, Imaginism Studios, Schoolism.com

Heroes Within: Queer Artists Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth

Room 204 | The Superhero Project | Lisa Kollins | Jessie Yang | Lex Meyer

Heroes Within, a new and affirming initiative, is designed to center the voices of LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, celebrate their strengths, and support healing through art and storytelling. Hear how queer artists are collaborating to design the heroic alter egos created by the participating youth during individual interviews – visual representations of their strength, courage and creativity. A beautiful and powerful touring exhibit of the superheroes’ posters, character stories, and Words of Wisdom written for their younger peers will bring awareness, understanding, care, and appreciation. Fun, fierce and fabulous images and a panel (including participating artists and youth) sharing insights will make this a joyful and meaningful session.
