The Irreplaceable Spark

Room 209-210 | Virginie Bourdin | Oriol Armengou

As the film industry transforms, one question looms: what makes a concept artist the one indispensable co-creator for filmmakers?

Join Virginie Bourdin —50+ titles as art director— and Oriol Armengou —7 years pre-production & concept art event organizer— as they explore human creativity’s enduring value in an automated landscape. This panel reframes concept art not as technique, but strategic creative problem-solving for storytelling.

Through five case studies—Alien: Earth, Captain Marvel, Barbie, Jurassic World 2, Edge of Tomorrow—the speakers demonstrate how meaningful design becomes iconic cinema.

The conversation ends with an invitation for artists to level up as IP creators.

Whether you’re an artist, filmmaker, or creative, this panel offers a roadmap for remaining irreplaceable.
