Yoo Lee is Korean-American writer/ director who first started her career as a fashion designer before switching over to animation. She is keenly aware of the preciousness of time, immersed in stop-motion as her medium of choice. She has written and directed 5 stop motion animated shorts in a period of 4 years before obtaining her MFA at USC inAnimation and Digital Design. In 2021, she received the Film Independent Laika Animation Fellow. Her short, 7LBS 8OZ, won the Grand Jury Animation Prize at the Florida Film Festival in 2022, qualifying for the 95th Oscars, and is currently distributed through The New Yorker Screening Room. Her 2nd-year student film, A Poem by Alba, won the Best Showcase Animated Film award in the 2022 Soho International Film Festival. She went on and got selected for HBO Max Access Animated Short Program in 2022 in its inauguration year and finished another short called ‘Welcome to 8th Street’, which is currently streaming on HBO Max. As a Fox Fellowship recipient, she went on to finish her USC Thesis film called ‘The Nectar Instead’ which has been accepted to over 40 film festivals worldwide.
