Illustrating the Alaskan Tundra

Francis will detail his experience over the summer of 2022 where he lived and visually documented the Canning River Bird Camp on the Northern Arctic Tundra of Alaska with a team of 11 biologists. In conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and The Audubon, Vallejo created an illustrated 88 page ‘zine based on this expedition. He is currently preparing a speaking tour around his home of Detroit, MI with the goal of connecting very city-oriented youth with the nature in Alaska and other natural lands.

Vallejo will discuss how to connect your art with nature and adventure, the residency world, pitching and delivering a project, and the process used to create the experimental imagery in his ‘zine.
